Douglas Hansen High Angle Technologies, Inc.

"For Those Who Know the Difference . . ."

"Still needs editing"

Myself and our team would like to welcome you to our Web Site.  We look forward to sharing ideas, techniques, thoughts, equipment, and services with you; and we are doing everything we can to make your visit enjoyable and profitable.  From the day we opened our doors to sell equipment to the Professionals of the hazard control, rescue, and climbing community, we have been committed to selling the best gear available.   Since then evolution has changed things but we are still are committed to Quality Equipment and Top Notch Service!  As the saying goes, "Douglas Hansen's High Angle Technologies, Inc. is for those people who know the difference . . ."  Have you ever tried to explain this to someone who has never owned quality?  It is almost a losing battle.  The something for nothing idea cripples our logic and we get all emotional.  In fact, we have actually read articles on increasing equipment sales where it suggested you sell the, "Sizzle."  Basically they suggest you appeal to the emotions and go as far as to say, "Remember,

Youth will want to know what the other kids or young people will think of them when, say...they are wearing the jacket, or skis.  Young parents will want to know that it is durable, and help them save money, and grand parent want to be remembered.  When Emotion is up logic is down, so if you try to explain the difference between "price" and actual "cost" you likely struggle to communicate the concept, i.e.:  Price is simply the amount one pays up front to buy the object.  Price is not an absolute guarantee it will be good or bad, but a low price in most often a sign of inferior material, poor workmanship, and the follow-up service that goes with the product.  On the other hand, a high price is usually a sign of high quality materials, good design, good workmanship, and good guarantee and training in using it, or how to get the most out of the product.

Most of the time these products will do the job you bought them for, perform well while doing it, and last a long time, provided the product is treated as it should be.  No product will survive a numb skull's mishandling it and not storing it properly.  Thus come the sayings about good service and quality:  "The bitterness of poor quality lasts much longer than the sweetness of a low price."  or  "You really don't pay extra for quality it pays you many times-over!"  or “It is better to spend a little more than you expected, than a little less than you should have”  or  "Cheap can be very expensive . . ." But my personal favorite is; "Dads says we are too poor to buy cheap things!"

Over 30 years ago, I became interested in the vertical environment and the natural environment.  As a young man I had the desire to seek adventure, challenge, and knowledge.  The vertical environment, maybe I should say "the technical environment," offered all three.  So I took it on, climbing (Rock, Ice, Alpine, even some sport). I have been fortunate enough to climb in many places around the world and even served as leader of, "Utahans on Everest 1992" with our expedition returning home friends, healthy, and having made it to 25,000 ft. (7,619m), one long day's climb from the summit of the highest mountain on earth.

Now as I sit here with time and experience under my belt although quite different from the past, I still have more to come before I start knocking on the door of the next great adventure.  I have very few pictures in my mind of "how it is suppose to be;" just a love and concern for my wonderful family who has stuck with me, through the rough and smooth sailing.  Now I look at the summit in a much different way.  Now I realize the summit of all

those mountains were just an excuses to play the game, the game called life.  I now feel stronger than ever before about the importance of family, spiritual living, and working together to make the world a better place.  Just the mere fact that we help others improves life in many ways.  Probably one of the most important ways is deep in side us.  It fills a need in us.

But my personal favorite is; "Dads says we are too poor to buy cheap things!"

Whether your excuse is scoring the most points in a game, or running long distances, or even a checkmate in a game of chess, it all really boils down to living life, and experiencing life.   Climbing to me has almost always been more about playing the game of life, sharing, learning, living, loving, and about assisting my fellow human being.  Even when I was receiving help, I realize now that too filled a need.  We all need to know we are needed and important.  Wow!  What an adventure!  Most of all I must thank you for your love and assistance.  I could not have been able experience the adventure without your help.  I hope I have been able to come close to repaying (although I believe we must avoid getting caught in the trap of keeping track) you for your assistance.    I have learned "the wise person learns to enjoy the journey, as well as the beginning and the summit or completion of various tasks along the way."  With this in mind the best choice seems to be, leave it to God (Some say God is Love), The Universe, or however Good People around the world believe it to be; and "Look in the same direction together, and spend less time looking at each other."  Ultimately, it is never about the other guy, we can not control him, it is about how we handle the situation.  As a wise person once put it, "Be the change you want to see in the World;" or put another way, "set an example."  "Based on results," we will see if something is working.  With that in mind I believe we all have a long ways to go, BUT that is O.K.!    We all have a variety of assets and liabilities.  The real question is, are we sincerely doing our best to make life better for us, our families, friends, and neighbors?  If so, then we should keep growing and learning individually and together and ultimately we will reach that goal we all seem to be looking for.  It is our goal to do the best we can in serving you, your department or company.  Thanks again for visiting our web site.  We are excited to be of service to you.  Also we would like to hear you comments and thoughts about the gear we sell and the lives we live. Thanks for being "you!"  We are looking forward to serving you.
