Professional Rigging Course

WHAT:       A 12 hour, two day(Friday evening 18:00 to 22:00; and all-day Saturday, 08:00 to .  hands on, professional rigging course and certification covering:

-Rigging then and now (what’s changed and what’s new)

-Principles of rigging:  Principles are the key.  Ways, means, and techniques change; principles never do                    

-Rigging equipment uses and misuses/death traps

-Pulleys and pulley systems,

          -Simple, Complex, Compound

-Alternatives to pulley systems

                   -Ways to rig anchors and anchoring systems,

-Types, methods, Load sharing anchors, self equalizing  anchors? (and why we choose not use them)

-Resultant forces and Resultant Angles of Force

-How to identify, and if your placing the right angles of force on your anchors.

-Steel rope/cable- its uses, advantages and when-how-and where to use it.

-In this professional rigging course you will learn how to identify and figure any pulley system & know its M.A. (Mechanical Advantage)

-You will be able to determine appropriate anchoring systems and know if you are placing the right angles of force on your anchors.

-You will receive a certification of attendance.

-And those who pass a written and practical examination will receive a level 1 rigging certification.

 

WHEN:       Aug. 3rd and 4thTimes: Fri. 18:00(6:00P.M.) to 22:00(10:00 P.M.)

                             Sept. 14th and 15th.            Sat. 08:30(8:30A.M.) to 17:00(5:00P.M.)

 

WHERE:    72 West 500 North, Orem, Utah 84057  High Angle Tech Center.

 

WHO:         Class is open for beginners to advanced.

-While advanced riggers will get the most out of this course.

-Beginners are welcome and invited to come but may not fully grasp everything taught in this course.

 

Class is for anyone working with rigging (rope or cable) in any high angle situation.  E.G. Emergency services personnel, fireman, police, mountain & urban rescue, construction rescue, Arena & Theatrical riggers, Professional construction workers; contractors (who can receive hours for their state required continuing education credits) rock climbers, arborists, engineers etc.

 

WHO:         The course is taught by High Angle Engineering Specialist       

BY              Douglas S. Hansen, who has spent over 30 years learning, studying, and teaching technical rope skills, high angle rigging, and safety?

His diverse experience and training gives him a unique insight into emergency situations, creative, rigging, and vertical engineering.

His list of experience includes:

-National Park Ranger Head of Search and Rescue

-Professional Fireman/EMT

-Private Pilot & Sky Diver

-Member of the National Search & Rescue Assoc.

-Former Captain &Operations Leader for the Utah County Sheriff’s Mountain Rescue

-Noted Freelance writer (Published over 100 times) in various emergency journals, climbing magazines, and other publications.

-Skilled Spelunker/ experienced confined spaces rigger

-Certified open water scuba diver

-Graduate American Avalanche Institute

-Graduate of Rigging for Rescue B.C. Canada

-Army Medic, 19th special forces (Green Beret, where he learned helicopter rescue rigging)

-Respected instructor for governmental agencies and private industry

COST:        Cost is $390 per person with a 50% plus *deposit  required to hold your place.  Cost includes use of all group gear, Instructional Handouts, Certifications, Lunch Saturday and doughnuts and drinks Saturday morning.

*Attendants should bring/provide their own personal equipment for use during the course. E.g. helmet, harness, etc.
